Ginkgo biloba is the world’s oldest living species of tree with individual trees living as long as 4,000 years. Ginkgo means “silver apricot” and refers to the apricot-like bodies the tree produces which technically are not fruits but seeds. Biloba means “two lobed” exemplifying the unique fan-shaped leaves of these trees.
The first recorded use of the Ginkgo biloba tree dates back hundreds of years to traditional Chinese texts.
Modern research on the active constituents in Ginkgo leaves started in the 1960s and has continued through to today.
